Home Solar Power – Your Own Solar Powered Home?

Anthony Dempster asked: Home Solar Power is becoming increasingly popular. If you’ve ever sat at your desk and used a solar powered calculator, you’ve probably marveled at the fact that it can operate without the need for batteries. If such a small solar panel can power a calculator, what can a larger solar panel do? A lot – it could even power your home. What once seemed like a distant daydream consigned to books about the future is becoming an everyday reality for an increasing number of people. Big companies such as BP have installed solar panels at a number of their gas stations as far away as New Zealand in an attempt to reduce their dependence on external electricity supplies. The reason behind these kinds of decisions normally comes down to two main factors: firstly, once initial setup is complete solar generated electricity is completely free ; secondly, there is a reduced impact on the environment as less fossil fuels need to be burned in order to generate the electricity. What steps are involved in setting up a solar powered home? The main step required is obtaining solar panels and placing them somewhere that gets good sunlight. For most houses the most obvious place is the roof, although bigger properties may also have bits of land that would be well suited to having solar panels established there. The cost of solar panels is becoming increasingly cheaper and they are also becoming less complicated to setup. With the help of a good guidebook it is even possible to setup this kind of system yourself. The most typical setup involves utilising a bank of batteries to store the electricity which can then be used to power various things within the home. This could be anything from additional lighting and hot water heating through to powering your stereo and tv. (Of course, any wiring to the mains must make use of a proper electrician). One of the most popular misconceptions about solar power is that it needs to be sunny for it to work. This is simply not the case – even on cloudy days there is enough energy from the sun coming through to power your home. Most likely the one factor that sways many individuals into putting in solar deck lighting or solar powered garden lights is the fact that there are no costs required aside from routine upkeep after the initial installation. Additionally, setting up solar powered lighting is a breeze and with no any electrical circuitry to deal with you have more options with regards to where you are able to place the lights meaning that you get a very simple and protected lighting choice which also guarantees that your kids and pets can play safely in the backyard without the risks of getting shocked. Easy To Put In Solar powered garden lights are very simple to install and all you need to do is select a spot in the backyard that gets plentiful sunlight to guarantee that the lights will receive adequate power that will provide continuous operation during the day. Also storing unutilized energy in power packs you are able to use the lights at night as well. Almost all solar garden lights come furnished with automatic switches which routinely turn on the lights whenever it gets dark and turn them off when the sun rises. The higher quality solar lights even has the capacity of saving enough power to keep the lights over many nights. Another great cause to install solar powered deck lighting or garden lights is when you are in an area that receives lots of electrical power outages you’ll still have lighting since solar energy does not depend on the utility companies. An additional advantage of solar powered lighting is the set up cost is substantially less the regular wiring due to the fact the installing of underground electrical conduits and electrical wires is not required. Not only are you going to spend less money for the original installation you also avoid monthly and quite often costly lighting costs . Although you can find several excellent reasons to opt for solar powered lights over common illumination methods you can find a few cons for instance solar illumination is usually not as bright as higher voltage lights. Nowadays the majority of solar lights that are obtained at retail stores produce a dim lumination and most solar lights used in gardening projects are less than 3 feet high. Another downside of solar lighting is that on overcast days there may not be enough sun light to sufficiently supply ample electricity to enable the solar cells and thus the power can be insufficient. In general for gardens, landscapes, patios, and pathways, solar lights are a good solution and include cost saving advantages. Living in a capitalist world, one of the most common (and indeed encouraged) of our social norms is that of the acquisition of property and consumer goods. We are actively encouraged to spend like crazy, and expend as much of our disposable income on the most expensive items. And yet, the bitter irony is that although we spend a lot of money and compare the prices charged for similar products….we always seem to miss the punch line; by virtue of the fact that we never really give much consideration to the process involved in the production of the items we use. Even with eco friendly technology, such as a Solar Powered Battery Charger . There will be readers who will remain cynical about the role that their usage of various appliances plays in relation to the infliction of damage to the environment, especially given how innocuous and innocent they seem. Some of us will grudgingly admit and concede a small measure of culpability, acknowledging the fact that the actual manufacturing process of the appliances and electronic devices is a major source of pollution. However, the polluting effects of our devices does not end there, indeed every time we power or charge them up, is yet another slap in the face for Mother Nature. Whether it is due to electrical batteries which are non bio-degradable, or the electricity we derive from our main power supply which in turn is created using massively polluting fossil fuels: rest assured, it is taking its toll on our planet. Electrical batteries cannot be incinerated; many of them contain plastic which releases a series of poisonous gases which is deadly to humans and organic life as a whole in very small doses, and contain deadly chemicals such as mercury and chloride. Even if it was possible to incinerate them, this is an extremely inefficient method of disposal because a considerable amount of energy and fuel would be required to power the combustion process to reach temperatures high enough to successfully smelt the components down. Given that a significant amount of pollution and power has to be tolerated in order to provide the electricity necessary to fuel the incinerators, it is plain to see that there is a definite catch-22 situation on our hands! It is not all doom and gloom however, for there is a new solution at hand: solar powered battery charger. Given that these are designed to be rechargeable, this means that their lifespan is far greater than their traditional counterparts. This does not mean that they are infinite resources, although there is ongoing research designed to further finesse the longevity of these products. Toyota’s Creates a Solar Powered Car

One of the most popular Hybrid cars on the market is the Toyota Prius. It is both compact and economical, with a starting price of just $22,400. This price puts the Prius within the realms of possibility for the everyday, although environmentally-conscious, individual. The third generation of Toyota Prius, the 2010 model, has EPA ratings of 51 mpg city, and 49 mpg highway. That’s pretty good even for a hybrid, and it’s a step up from earlier Toyota Prius models. But now, a new pricing structure is lined up for this hybrid. The Toyota Prius I, II, III, IV, and V are reportedly already available. The lowest-prices model is the Toyota Prius I, which should run for around $21,000, while the Prius V starts at $27,670. It gets better though. A solar roof package is available for the Toyota Prius II, III, and IV Models – but not for the V. The solar roof costs between $3,600 and $4,500. It uses solar panels to supplement the vehicle’s power and to get even better mileage. This package also includes a solar-powered ventilation system, a navigation system, a power tilt/slide moon roof, and remote-control AC (for those of us who just can’t be bothered to lean forward and turn the knob?) With the combination of hybrid technology and solar power, a whole new range of fuel efficiency may be well within grasp. The solar powered version is said to make mileages of up to 70 miles per gallon possible, under the right circumstances. If you live in or often drive through a sunny climate, a solar-powered roof might go a long ways in reducing your gas bill and carbon emissions. Under some (somewhat theoretical) circumstances, the driver of a solar-powered Toyota Prius might never need to buy gas at all. But minimally, a driver of a solar powered Prius who uses the vehicle’s “eco” settings and follows basic speed guidelines can expect to stop for gasoline far less often – so infrequently, in fact, that he should take care not to forget to stop for gas at all. Environmentalism is considered the most urgent concern to humanity today. In order to counter the consequences of pollution and also to have an electricity supply that is renewable scientists are finding substitute sources of energy. Solar energy satisfies both these requirements just fine and hence that is being advertised as the fuel of the future. Solar energy is the electricity that is produced from the daylight or heat energy. Photo voltaic cells or solar cells are equipments which are aimed to acquire the sun’s rays and transform it instantly into electricity. A single cell powers a watch while several cells prepared in particular array can acquire more light to create more energy and light up a garden, as an illustration. Solar collectors are devices which are used for acquiring the sun’s heat to heat up water which gives steam that will be utilized to create electricity. The benefits from such an endeavor are numerous, and can include things that will help humanity for many years to come. A cleaner planet is something that many people see as important for our lives now as well as the future generations that are to come, and thus, implementing solar energy into our daily lives has become very important. Applications for solar energy comprise solar cookers, solar powered vehicles and even satellite uses. In active processes sun’s light and heat energy are captured through equipments and then transformed. In passive processes areas and constructions are devised to take advantage of the sun’s energies in several ways. Say for example putting up windows at places which capture the sun at the right position for long periods are useful in day-lighting. Using resources that have special heat retaining and light reflecting features is also somewhat usual in the passive utilization techniques. Are you contemplating a transfer to a sunlit place? Then after comprehending regarding the multiple help of solar energy you will probably be interested in rewarding all your electricity requirements with that! For the move itself there are national moving companies you can choose for the uncomplicated transportation of your precious house hold goods. If you have cars waiting to be relocated then you may compare auto transport quotes from a number of companies to determine which is inexpensive and best. By allowing a negotiator to do the packing and relocating you will be able to avoid moving stress and direct your energies on more interesting issues matters like creating preparations for a solar powered house. Several emerging countries of the world are producing their own power plants to create solar energy for commercial distribution on big scale. This is a sustainable supply of current and even though the primary set-up costs could run high the really low operational costs could balance for the same. Germany is a country that has a successfully running solar power station proving it to be a commercially feasible choice. A big power plant with a capacity of 3000 MW has been designed in India which is a tropical country with sun’s ray being obtainable in loads all through the year. We live in a capitalist society and we have a very “live for today, don’t worry about tomorrow” attitude towards our lifestyle which is demonstrated in a number of different ways. We rely upon consumer products with reckless abandonment, very rarely taking the time to even contemplate the effort or cost that was incurred in the production of the goods in question. How many of us have blithely handed over cash to pay for a particular electronic device, and not even gave a thought to the sheer effort that is required, or the resources expended in the production of the item in question? This is an issue that applies even with a Solar Powered Battery Charger . Electrical batteries are a nightmare to dispose of, there really is no real way to dispose of them cleanly, efficiently and above all else: safely. Cost rules supreme when it comes to disposal of these units, and so the most cost effective solution is to dump them in landfill sites and simply bury more rubbish on top of them. This would not be such a big issue if the components were actually biodegradable…but they aren’t and so unless we can wait around a century for them to finally break down, we have a real problem on our hands. We can’t burn or melt the components because that would create an unacceptably high level of pollution as well as potentially and actually lethal gases which would pose a significant risk to the personnel involved in the incineration process. Thankfully, research has finally came to fruition and borne a remarkable new product: the solar powered battery charger. What makes this item so ideal for the current dilemma is that it is rechargeable meaning that the consumer can use the item in question for much longer periods of time which in turn reduces the need for manufacturing the chargers in the first place. This single fact in of itself means that the pollution and toxins which are an unhappy by product of the process can finally be put to rest.
