The sun’s rays generates massive amounts of energy which are transmitted down to the earth’s surface. Whenever the sun’s light reach the earth’s surface the intensity of the heat directly from the sun’s rays is not as hot because some of the heat happens to be rerouted before it reaches the earth’s atmosphere. When the direct sun light is hot and it is summer time we feel that it couldn’t get much hotter as the mid day sunshine makes you run to find shade, but it can get hotter if it wasn’t rerouted. Solar power can easily be hot enough to power machines and that is just what actually ended up being found out over one 100 years ago when a man working on machines wondered if steam from the heat of the day might be used to power up machines. He was correct and thus started a new kind of generation, heat and electricity. Nowadays solar power is actually being used all over the world. The solar power is actually being concentrated right into a Solar Panels source where the heat is actually used in many different ways. We nevertheless count on our method of heating and powering our buildings however in the future it may be powered from the sun. It is definitely cost effective to use photo voltaic power since the only financial outlay you have is in your photo voltaic source. To use solar powered energy you will have to have something that will can attract the sunshine and make it possible for the heat to be focused where it can stay warm for long periods of time. This really is reasonably easy when you consider all the know-how and resources that we already have access to. When you use solar technology for heating and power electricity you can’t fail. Solar electricity is actually entrusted in space shuttles as they know that this will help develop the most efficient energy with the least amount of troubles. The photo voltaic panels are faced in the direction of direct sunlight at all times to be able to power the shuttle efficiently. There are certainly a lot fewer problems from photo voltaic power compared to other solutions. Despite the fact that there are days that there are clouds in the sky and even rain, snow or other weather, it is possible to generate enough heat in your solar source to generate enough energy in order to last until the sun will come back down. Solar energy is in our foreseeable future we have to be ready for it. Right now solar systems is actually only being used by those who’re much more aware and nervous regarding our earth’s atmosphere when it is a concern we ought to be concerned with. We can easily learn a lot from the past along with the way which solar panel technology was used. Every minute of the sunlight was used doing everything that needed taken care of because after the sun went down there was no longer light. I don’t believe we could do this today. Solar power has so many benefits for all of us that we don’t fully grasp them all and how it’s a whole lot more efficient to use the photo voltaic energy than other methods.

Share by Courtney C. Capshaw, Lockheed Martin Member of the Con Edison Green Team Office buildings consume more energy than any other building type, according to the U.S Energy Information Administration. These buildings use 198 billion kWh of electricity each year, equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by 18 million American homes annually. The cost of this energy usage is on average $1.51 per square foot in office buildings nationwide. That number is closer to $2.50 per square foot in New York City, where buildings consume almost 80% of all energy. Con Edisons Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Energy Efficiency Program can help to reduce energy consumption in office buildings. This program provides C&I customers cash rebates and incentives for implementing energy efficient solutions and installing energy efficient equipment upgrades. Available for both gas and electric projects, these energy efficiency upgrades can help improve your companys bottom line by reducing energy usage and maintenance costs while increasing operating efficiencies. What Does Going “Green” Actually Mean?

A compiling of different influential factors in western society has thrown a new word into the regular verbiage of English speakers around the world. The word itself isn’t anything new in terms of speech or meaning but we’ve all been affected by its dramatic influence on society today. “Green” is the topic at hand; the simple color that has been exploited beyond its assumed traits to now encompasses growth, mother earth, and new beginnings for a changing planet. “Green” can be easily defined in its simplest terms, but the ideology that has been built around its presumed identity is sometimes rather confusing. Simply put, “green” refers to industry, product, and lifestyles have been created as a response to climate change. While a simple definition explains at the basic level, “green” is evolving into a much bigger idea. Our problem is that “green” is beginning to express more talk than it is action. “Green” is now used to push product rather than solve problems; creating an entirely new industry of clean energy and leaving behind the products and technology that improve the technology we already have. People around the globe view the issue of going “green” differently. Some nations and peoples will be big proponents of new energy technology while others see the answer to world problems in the form of simple improvements to the technology we have. It’s this very idea that complicates and eventually loses the public’s interest in being a part of the conversation of “green”. Let’s take a step back and remember that “green” is still a fairly new issue that hasn’t even been fully developed. The divisions caused by trying to define “green” is being created in large part because of businesses, who otherwise would never take an interest, are now trying to tap into this new and desirable market. The new “green” technology that is being invented and perfected to create clean carbon neutral energy is a huge step in the long term right direction for the planet but it doesn’t solve today’s problems. Even with clean energy sources many green businesses are still not addressing the real issue at play, energy efficiency. Increased energy efficiency is not a new concept or invention but has simply been hidden under the rug of the other predominant environmentally friendly technology today. As an example, our business of making waste heat recovery condensing economizers allows owners of natural gas and LP boilers to improve their preexisting technology which saves them money as well as precious natural resource. By improving your equipment to function at maximum efficiency, you are creating solutions to problems. It’s commendable that technology is being made that will one day replace polluting energy sources, but until that day comes it’s important that we make the most out of what we have, pollute less, and do so while saving you and your business money. In a world where “green” rules, the best thing to do is take a step back and see where you can improve and determine where true “green” values can start working for you and the planet. To find out more about how you can save money, reduce C02 emissions and conserve water with a Condensing Economizer visit www.SidelSystems.com. How Does Wind Power Work?
March 2, 2011 by admin

Michelle Bery asked: Wind energy is an environmentally inert, clean, and inexhaustible source of electric power that, as it turns out, is really just another form of solar energy. The sun creates wind by its uneven heating of the planet’s atmosphere. It’s moderated by the earth’s rotation and irregularities in its surface. The planet’s terrain, water bodies, and vegetation then affect the wind flow patterns. With the invention of wind turbines, we can now harness the wind’s energy and use it instead of purchasing electricity from the utility companies that are derived from non-renewable sources. The easiest way to understand how wind turbines work is to think of a fan operating in reverse – rather than electricity spinning the blades and thus generating wind, the wind spins the blades, thereby generating electricity. Breaking it down to it’s simplest components, a wind turbine operates as follows: the wind turns the blades the blades spin a shaft the shaft connects to a generator the generator produces electricity To expand on that simplification, the turbine’s blades are connected to a hub that’s mounted atop a turning shaft which runs into a gear transmission box that increases the turning speed which, in turn, is connected to a high speed shaft that cranks the generator. If the wind speeds get too high, a brake is deployed to slow the blades down and prevent damage being done to the system. There are two basic types of wind turbine: horizontal axis wind turbines: the kind most commonly in use today and the focus of U.S. Department of Energy research on wind power, these come in two varieties – 2-blade horizontal axis turbines spin downwind 3-blade horizontal axis turbines spin upwind vertical axis wind turbines The size of a wind turbine will influence its power generating capacity, with the smaller windmills that produce under 50 kilowatts being the type most commonly used to power water pumps, telecom dishes, and homes. In an innovative advancement known as hybrid wind systems, these smaller turbines are also being used in combination with solar (photovoltaic) systems, rechargeable deep-cycle batteries, and diesel generators to provide storable, on-demand power in more remote, off-the-grid places. In most residential situations, a wind turbine is used as a supplemental source of power in combination with local, on-the-grid, utility power. There is something called a cut-in speed (7-10 miles per hour), below which the wind turbine will cease to provide an output, and the utility grid provides the structure’s power. Above the cut-in speed, the wind turbine kicks in and the grid power supply is proportionately reduced (depending on the structure’s energy draw at the given moment). If the output produced by the wind turbine exceeds the draw from the structure (and/or storage devices, like batteries), the excess power is then sold back to the pubic utility company. Use of wind energy can reduce a residence’s energy costs by, on average, 50-90%, though these numbers are influenced by a variety of factors and, as such, can fluctuate greatly. In a typical residence that uses under 10,000 kilowatt hours per year of electric power, a 5-15 kilowatt wind turbine should more than suffice. This type of system can run anywhere from $6,000-$22,000 to install, depending on a variety of factors, including: its size, your intended application, and any service contracts entered into with the manufacturer. Being that certain situations (such as in the city) make personal wind power use an unviable option, a general rule of thumb is to consider installing your own wind power system if and only if you pay at least 10 cents per kilowatt hour and your location’s average wind speeds exceed 10 miles per hour. The larger wind turbines have capacities upwards of 50 kilowatts, running these days into the several-megawatt range. These windmills, known as utility scale turbines, can be grouped together and connected to central lines for transmitting and distributing in bulk to the local utility grids that, in turn, sell that power to homes and businesses across the land. These are called wind power plants or wind farms. Solar power Read more on How Does Wind Power Work?…
